West Sussex wine walks

Imagine a cold glass of sparkling looking out over the English countryside after a hike in wonderful West Sussex. We don’t know about you, but a walk that ends with wine and nibbles to us sounds pretty ideal!

Exploring Sussex wine country on foot not only provides a great backdrop and incredible scenery, but also gives an opportunity to learn more about the local area and produce.

We’ve listed some of our favourite walks around the area for wine lovers - we hope you enjoy!

This 3.4 mile circular walk takes you through the charming villages of West Chiltington and Nutbourne. Along the way you’ll see thatched houses, rolling hills, a few ponds, a gold course, and you can end up with beautiful scenes of fields filled with vines from Nyetimber and Nutbourne Estate. The ideal route is: Start at the Street, turn left into Stream Lane, turn left into Mill Road. turn right into Lower Jordans Lane, turn left into Gay Street, end up at Nutbourne Vineyard.

WISTON ESTATE

Not too far from Wiston Estate is the Chanctonbury ring walk, which forms part of the South Downs way. The walk takes you along an Iron Age hill fort with spectacular views over the Sussex countryside. It’s a 3-4 mile loop trail near Findon, generally considered easy taking 1-1.5 hrs to complete depending on how fast you walk… or how quickly you want to get to that wine. The loop takes you right by Wiston so you can pop in whilst en route wherever you start the loop.

RATHFINNY ESTATE

Technically Rathfinny lies in East Sussex, but the white cliffs of the Seven sisters is undoubtedly one of the most stunning walks Sussex has to offer. If you’re a real hiker, the best way to experience the Seven Sisters cliffs is by walking the 14 mile coastal trail from Seaford to Eastbourne. However, we like the idea of a shorter walk starting at Seaford and then getting in the car for 12 minutes and driving to Rathfinny Estate for a tour or fancy lunch.

There are plenty more wineries around West Sussex to visit. Check out our blog on West Sussex Wineries near Kinsbrook.
